Getting to Hotel
The most typical way to reach the Isle of Wight is by ferry, coming from the English mainland. There are several routes, operated by Wightlink and Red Funnel. If you are arriving by car, then take either the car ferries from Portsmouth to Fishbourne (an approximately 45-minute crossing) or from Lymington to Yarmouth (an approximately 40-minute crossing). From Fishbourne ferry terminal, driving to Cliff Hall Hotel at Shanklin takes a pretty scenic 25-30 minute drive across the island. The hotel does have limited on-site parking and should be requested when booking.
High-Speed passenger catamaran from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head which takes twenty-two minutes is the fastest direct route for foot passengers. At Ryde Pier Head, just step off your platform then onto the Island Line train service. Picturesque old tube trains dating back to the 1930s run right from the pier down that part of the island's east coast all the way to the Shanklin train station. It's a uniquely beautiful way to arrive.
It is a 15-minute walk (partially uphill) from the Shanklin train station to the hotel or a very short, inexpensive taxi ride. The island also falls under the route of an excellent comprehensive bus network service by Southern Vectis. Its main Shanklin bus station shares adjacent space with the train station for straightforward connections to every other part of the island if traveling without a car.
